About the role

Lead Web Engineers have advanced knowledge of PHP and JavaScript and experience building large-scale performant applications. In addition to writing code, they are familiar with systems-level concepts.

With an ever-evolving knowledge of cutting edge techniques, and an understanding of the constraints of scope and budget, a Lead Web Engineer is also expected to be a good communicator; they are skilled at providing actionable feedback and recommendations both internally to managers/teammates and externally to clients/vendors.

Lead Web Engineers deliver successful projects by writing quality code, driving technical strategy, and taking absolute ownership over the quality of all Engineering deliverables on their projects.

Lead Web Engineers must be capable of serving in a technical lead capacity across the most technically complex projects at 10up; collaborating across multiple disciplines in order to drive forward Engineering process and deliverables.

This role is fully remote and is open to applicants located anywhere around the globe.

Responsibilities


Develop complex WordPress plugins, themes and blocks.
Contribute to the improvement of the Engineering discipline via thought leadership and mentorship.
Strategic technical leadership Drive strategy and lead back end technical vision of large, technically complex projects in collaboration with other key disciplines and stakeholders..
Leverage WordPress APIs and extend the WordPress admin experience.
Solve complex problems in simple ways.
Juggle current projects with incoming tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Engage meaningfully with clients; leading demos and driving discussions.
Test solutions across multiple browsers and platforms in a local testing environment.
Deploy changes to live servers.

Requirements


At least five years experience in back end focused web development.
Project-level leadership experience e.g. leading a team of engineers to solve a complex problem.
Expert skills in: PHP, JavaScript, React.js, WordPress, HTML, CSS and Git.
Experience building custom blocks in the Gutenberg block editor.
Ability to setup a local environment and expertly debug performance and caching issues across environments.
Proficiency in verbal and written English; ability to communicate professionally with technical and non-technical colleagues and clients.
